Cardinals visited with fans, competed in six intra-squad races and capped event with cookout
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team kicked off its fall schedule on Saturday morning with the 11th annual Red & Black Regatta at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park on River Road. The only home event for the Cardinals this season featured six intra-squad races along the Ohio River.
The morning schedule began with a welcome message to the fans from Cardinals head coach Derek Copeland as well as remarks from acting director of athletics Vince Tyra. Prior to the racing, Tyra also visited with the Louisville rowing team and support staff inside the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center.
On the water, the racing on Saturday was competitive and entertaining for the fans while off the water, Louie the Cardinal Bird mascot and the Cardinal Pride Pep Band provided entertainment between races. The Louisville coaches included various personnel combinations in the boats, which served as a helpful trial test for future events. Following the completion of the racing action on the water, the Cardinals hosted a cookout with the rowers, families and alumni in attendance. Â
Up next, the Cardinals face their first outside competition of the 2017-18 season as they send select crews to the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 21-22 in Cambridge, Mass.
