
Cardinals 17th in Championship Eights at Head of the Charles

Louisville covers three-mile course in 15:44.421 as Sudbury Rowing Club wins women’s championship eight
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Making its first appearance at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in six years, the University of Louisville rowing team earned a 17th-place finish in the championship eights event on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals' varsity eight crew of sophomore Kate Allport (coxswain), freshman Violette Legrand, senior Claire Bahain, senior Kirsti Harrison, junior Abbi Fitts, senior Sarah Podwojski, junior Lucie Heranova, senior Elizabeth Patrick and senior Leah Stump covered the three-mile course along the Charles River in a time of 15 minutes, 44.421 seconds to finish 17th in the field of 36 crews. Louisville was 12th among the collegiate crews in the event, while the Sudbury Rowing Club from Canada paced the way with a time of 14:48.423.
Since its origin in 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta has welcomed the world's best crew teams to the banks of the Charles River for the ultimate two-day rowing competition. This year's event included 2,271 entries while more than 1,650 volunteers assist with the event, which is the largest two-day regatta in the world.
Up next, the Louisville rowing team will return to action at the Head of the Hooch on Nov. 4 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
