
Louisville Registers Three Wins at Head of the Hooch

Cardinals earn victories in Championship 8+, Championship 4+ and Championship 2x
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing team earned a trio of wins, including a victory in the Championship 8+ event, during Saturday's Head of the Hooch regatta.
Competing across the 5,000-meter course on the Tennessee River, the Cardinals also added first-place finishes in the Women's Championship 4+ and the Women's Championship 2x events while adding a runner-up result in the Women's College Novice 8+. In the Championship 8+ event, Louisville's crew of Kate Allport (coxswain), Violette Legrand, Claire Bahain, Kirsti Harrison, Abbi Fitts, Leah Stump, Lucie Heranova, Elizabeth Patrick and Sophie Schulz finished in a time of 16:08.17 to defeat a field of 20 other boats. Clemson was second at 16:17.17, while Alabama rounded out the top three in a time of 16:20.64. The Cardinals additional boat in the race finished sixth in a time of 16:39.45.
Competing against of field of 31 other crews, Louisville's "A" crew of Kate Allport (coxswain), Lucie Heranova, Caroline Lynch, Sophie Schulz and Kirsti Harrison rowed to victory in the Championship 4+ with a time of 17:22.74, more than 15 seconds faster than second-place Oklahoma (17:38.02). The Sooners also had a crew finished in third at 17:47.47, while Louisville's "B" crew was fifth at 18:06.12.
The third victory of the afternoon for the Cardinals came in the Championship 2x as Violette Legrand and Claire Bahain had a time of 18:47.53 to defeat a field of nine other crews. Louisville also registered fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the 2x. UofL added a runner-up finish in a field of 38 entries in the College Novice 8+ with a time of 17:15.35, while Clemson paced the way at 17:13.05.
The Head of the Hooch is one of the world's largest rowing regattas with more than 2,000 boats racing during the two days. Participants come from more than 200 different organizations to compete in the event, which is organized and hosted by the Atlanta Rowing Club (Roswell, Ga.) and the Lookout Rowing Club (Chattanooga, Tenn.).
Up next, the Cardinals will close the fall racing schedule at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Virginia on Nov. 12.
