Rowing Finishes Second in Varsity Eight at Rivanna Romp

Cardinals add third-place finish in varsity four and fifth-place in novice eight
EARLYSVILLE, Va. - The University of Louisville rowing team closed its fall racing schedule with a trio of top five finishes at Sunday's Rivanna Romp hosted by the University of Virginia.
The top performance of the day came in the varsity eight race as the Cardinals' 'A' boat completed the course in a time 13:20.7 to finish second in a field of 21 crews and trail only the host Cavaliers, who led the way in a time of 13:09.7. Duke was third in a time of 13:30.7 while Virginia's 'B' boat (13:33.4) and Pennsylvania (13:41.2) rounded out the top five. Louisville's 'B" boat earned a 10th-place finish with a time of 13:53.6.
"This event is the pinnacle of our fall season. The team and staff worked very hard to package together a great regatta," said Cardinals head coach Derek Copeland. "It was great to race competition from the ACC as well as Ivy League. These are great programs that will certainly be pushing and fighting for NCAA spots in May. Thanks to UVA for inviting us to this race for the fifth year. They are wonderful hosts and even better competitors. Now, we will approach winter training with more focus than ever."
Louisville added a third-place finish in the varsity four event as the 'A' crew registered a time of 14:52.3 to trail Duke's 'A' boat (14:34.2) and Virginia's 'C' crew (14:44.8). The Cardinals added a seventh-place finish in the field of 24 boats with their 'B" crew covering the course in a time of 15:23.4. The final top five finish for UofL came in the novice eight as the Cardinals finished fifth with a time of 14:48.7, while Virginia paced the way at 14:09.0.
The racing schedule for the Louisville rowing team will resume in the spring with the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on March 17-18 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
