Men's and Women's Cross Country Finish in the Top 20 at Pre-Nationals

Cards finish 12th in both races on Saturday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With top-20 individual finishes in both the men's and women's races, the University of Louisville men's and women's cross-country teams turned in a solid performance at the Adidas Pre-National Invitational Saturday morning at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
"On a perfect day, I think we could have finished inside the top 10 today," said coach Dale Cowper. "We know the squad is still improving and are excited to see what they can accomplish in the next month."
Redshirt freshman Albert Kosgei highlighted the day for Louisville, finishing fifth in the men's black 8K with a time of 24:08.5. Junior Daniel Fleace placed 59th with a time of 25:23.2. Freshman Ben Ewert produced the strongest performance of his young career with a time of 25:42.9, putting him in 86th position. The Cards finished 12th in the field with 315 points, with Ohio State prevailing with 103.
"We continue to see outstanding effort from our men's team," said coach Cowper. "The group did an outstanding job of following the race plan today, and it was great to see Albert finish in the top five."
In the women's red 6K event, sophomore Dorcas Wasike led the Cardinals' runners with a personal-best time of 20:03.8, placing 11th in the field. Fellow sophomore Kassidy Manning finished 57th with a time of 20:48.9, while senior Mia Ross set a personal record with a time of 21:12.7. In the overall tally, the Cards placed 12th with 416 points, as Oregon took the title with 63.
"We are really excited about the way the women's squad raced today," said coach Cowper. "The group is continuing to build toward the ACC Championships in just under two weeks. On a perfect day, I think we could have finished inside the top 10 today."
The Cards will now turn their attention to the ACC Championships, which will be hosted at Sawyer Park on Friday, Oct. 27. The site will also be the host of the NCAA Division I Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28.
