Emmonnie Henderson and Alexis Gibbons finish with wins for the Cardinals

BLOOMINGTON, IND. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the first day at the IU Relays with two wins and four athletes advanced the final events on Saturday. Emmonnie Henderson won the shot put while Alexis Gibbons won the long jump.

Henderson won the shot put for the third straight week. Henderson was in control with every throw and won with her final throw of 16.82m/55-02.25.

Gibbons won the long jump for the third time this season. Her third jump of 6.18m/20-03.50 won the event.

Three Cardinals advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Brianne Brown won her heat with a time of 8.63 and finished second overall. Kelsey Heyward advanced with a career best time of 8.76 while Sydney Hill advanced with a time of 8.79. Newcomer Daniel Bien-Aime advanced to the finals of the men's 60-meter dash. He finished second in his heat with a time of 6.92 and finished sixth overall.

Eric Fox competed in four events of the heptathlon and is currently in sixth place with 2,723 points. He finished second in the shot put with a throw of 12.50m/41-00.25. He finished fifth in the 60-meter dash and the long jump. Fox finished with a career-best effort in the long jump with a jump of 6.50m/21-04.00. He wrapped up the day with a seventh place finish in the high jump.

The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow morning with the 60m hurdles for both the pentathlon and heptathlon. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:20 a.m.
