Cardinals to compete in Notre Dame on Saturday

This Week: The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to compete at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday with the men's long jump and the women's weight throw followed by the women's long jump and the men's weight throw. Running events are slated to start at noon with the women's 60 meter hurdle trials followed by the men's 60 meter hurdle trials at 12:10 p.m. in the Loftus Center.

Louisville will be competing against seven teams, including No. 19 Virginia and the women against No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 12 Michigan. The field will also include DePaul, Michigan State, and North Carolina.

Last Time Out: Freshman Alexis Gibbons continued her winning ways and took home the title in the women's long jump at the UK Invitational for her second win of the season. She won with a jump of 6.18m/20-03.5.

Senior Damar Robinson set a new personal best and won the men's high jump with a mark of 2.22m/7-03.25. His teammate, junior Jerin Allen, was right behind him finishing second with a jump of 2.15m/7-00.50.

Senior Emmonnie Henderson had a strong showing as well. She finished second in the shot put with a throw of 16.60m/54-05.50. Sophomore Raven Grant took third in the 60 meter dash with a season best time of 7.54.

Sophomore Holly Hankenson set a new season best time 2:15.62 in the 800 meter run and finished third. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Carlos Coleman, Josh Hall, Teague Peck and Eric Fox finished third with a time of 3:16.65 in their first race of the season.

Last Year: The Cardinals also had a strong showing at last year's Notre Dame Invitational. Senior Bre'Yana Wash took first in the long jump with a mark of 6.10m. Senior Emmonnie Henderson won the shot put with a throw of 16.78m. Redshirt-senior Edwin Kibichiy took first in the mile with a time of 4:07.40, senior Damar Robinson won the high jump clearing 2.16m, and junior Oliver Newport took first in the long jump with a mark of 7.26m. These Cardinals will look to defend their titles this weekend.
