
Track and Field Kicks Off Competition at the Kentucky Invitational

Nyemah and Henderson lead the Cardinals on the first night in the weight throw
LEXINGTON, KY. – In their first competition of 2017, the University of Louisville track and field team got off to a solid start at the Kentucky Invitational. Dolly Nyemah finished second while Emmonnie Henderson finished third in the women's weight throw.
"I was pleased with our effort and intentions tonight in the weight throw," said head coach Dale Cowper. "However, I am not excited about our technical execution. As a group, we simply have to do a better job of executing things we do throughout the week in training."
Both teams opened the meet with the weight throw. Nyemah threw a season best mark of 19.82m /65-00.50 to take second place and lead the Cardinals. Henderson finished third with a season best throw of 18.73m /61-05.50.
Sophomore Cyerra Cassell finished 13th with a throw of 16.23m/53-03.00. Freshman Natalie Uhl finished 18th with a throw of 15.35m/50-04.50.
On the men's side, Spencer Harris led the men with a 10th place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.81m/51-10.50. Mitchell Kessler finished 14th with a throw of with a career best throw of 15.13m/49-07.75.
The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday with field events beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the men's and women's high jump finals. The running events are slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles semifinals followed by the men's 60-meter hurdles semifinals at 12:20 p.m.
