Track and Field Finishes with Two Wins at the Kentucky Invitational
January 14, 2017 | Track & Field
Robinson and Gibbons lead the Cardinals with wins in the high jump and long jump
LEXINGTON, KY. – The University of Louisville track and field teams finished with two wins and 12 top five finishes at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday. Damar Robinson finished with a win in the high jump and Alexis Gibbons finished with her second win in the long jump.
"Today was a great opportunity for the staff to evaluate where each of the students are at after coming back from winter break," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Both squads are adapting to increased January training loads and looked a little sluggish at times. I am confident we will see this workload begin to payoff next week when we head to Notre Dame."
In his first indoor appearance of the season, Robinson won the high jump with a personal best mark of 2.22m/7-03.25. Freshman Jerin Allen finished second with a jump of 2.15m/7-00.50.
Gibbons, a freshman, won the long jump with a mark of 6.18m/20-03.50. It was her second straight win in the long jump.
Other highlights of the day included Emmonnie Henderson's second place finish in the shot put. Henderson finished with a throw of 16.60m/54-05.50. Sophomore Raven Grant finished third in the 60 meter dash with a season best time of 7.54.
Holly Hankenson finished third in the 800 meter run with a season best time of 2:15.62. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Carlos Coleman, Josh Hall, Teague Peck and Eric Fox finished third in the first race of the season with a time of 3:16.65.
The Cardinals will be back in action next Saturday at the Notre Dame Invitational.
