Cardinal men finish sixth while the women finish seventh
Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's cross country team finished sixth and the women finished seventh at the Commodore Classic on Saturday afternoon at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. Edwin Kibichiy won his second consecutive race of the season to lead the men while Dorcas Wasike led the women with a second place finish.
Kibichiy paced all runners in the 8K with a time of 24:01.6 to win the race. Calvin Chemoiywo finished third with a time of 24:15.2. George Yator finished 24th with a career best time of 25:25.5, giving the Cards three finishers in the Top 25.
"Edwin and Calvin had another solid run to lead the way for the men's squad," said head coach Dale Cowper. "The team will continue to improve as long as our 3-5 runners continue progressing together."
Sophomore Daniel Fleace finished 63rd for the Cardinals with a time of 26:03.1. Freshman Julien Magalanes finished 83rd with a time of 26:18.8.
"Dorcas made a strong move to the lead during the women's race," said Cowper. "She was in a great position until she lost her footing with about 500 meters to go in the race. She showed great poise in finishing as runner-up today."
Wasike finished second today with a career-best time of 16:59.8. She has finished in the top two of both her 5K races this season. She won the Dayton Flyer Open two weeks ago.
"It is clear that our women's squad has made a strong push over the last two weeks," Cowper stated. "It was great to see them work together today while following the race plan Coach Walker and Coach Wrieden have put together."
Junior Bailey Davis finished 32nd for the women with a career best time of 17:51.8. Mia Ross finished 44th with a time of 17:59.7 while Aurilla Wilson finished 46th with a career-best time of 18:02.4.
