The University of Louisville field hockey team will play host to Ohio University in a preseason scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Admission is free.
After a week of practice, the Cardinals are ready to put their early season skills to the test. Louisville returns 15 players including seven starters returning from last season. Among the key returnees are National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American sophomore goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran and fellow NFHCA All-Region selections senior Erin McCrudden and junior Nicole Woods. In addition to the core of veterans returning, UofL welcomes eight talented newcomers who will be instrumental in the team's success in 2016.

Ohio University was picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Bobcats posted an 8-10 overall record and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. Among Ohio's key returnees are first team All-MAC selection junior Maria Russell and sophomore Kendall Ballard, who earned second team All-MAC recognition.

The Cardinals finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-7 overall record and made their second-straight NCAA appearance. Louisville was ranked No. 11 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll released on Nov. 10 and spent seven weeks among the top 10 in the nation after opening the 2015 season at No. 12.
UofL will officially open the 2016 season on Aug. 26 when the Cards travel to Bloomington, Ind. to face Indiana University.
