Anne Kordes fielded questions about her 2016 Volleyball team at Media Day today at Lynn Stadium. Kordes, entering her sixth year as UofL's head coach, is impressed with her team's hustle and their commitment to posting an RPI that will put them in an advantageous s.pot in the post season.
Â
"We have 17 healthy players on the roster," said Kordes. "We have a great core coming back and the addition of our new players has us fired up. The rankings came out this week and we are No. 23. We play No. 3 Minnesota and No. 4 Wisconsin in our second weekend and Kentucky, who is also nationally ranked so we have a very competitive schedule right from the start. The ACC is strong from top to bottom and we have a target on our back as defending champions, so we have a lot of work to do."
Â
The defending ACC Champion University of Louisville volleyball team will play 15 regular season home matches in 2016 as the Cardinals unveil their schedule. The Cardinals will face eight opponents who played in last year's NCAA Championships tournament, including Final Four participant and No. 2 seed Minnesota, and regional semifinalist Wisconsin. There will be 10 ACC home matches and a Red and Black scrimmage that will kick off the season.
Kordes led the Cardinals to the ACC crown and the Cardinals made their 25th NCAA appearance in 2015. The Cardinals earned a top 16 seed and hosted the first and second rounds. She was named ACC Coach of the Year as part of Louisville's sweep of the major conference awards. Katie George was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Setter of the Year and Molly Sauer was named Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. UofL posted a 25-7 season and was 18-2 in the ACC.
