Newcomers Parker Wynn and Ciros Lampasas post impressive results in ITA Summer Circuit Series
Incoming freshman Parker Wynn and junior college transfer Ciros Lampasas have been honing their skills over the summer in preparation for the 2016-17 tennis season.
Wynn has continued to add to his already-impressive juniors resume by winning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit Dallas Tournament July 9-12.
"This is one of the larger ITA tournaments of the summer and featured some great players including a couple of players on the rosters for Wake Forest and Texas Tech last season, Both those teams were highly ranked last year," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma "Parker told me he is excited about getting to campus in a month, but I am probably more excited. Parker is doing all the right things to get ready for the fall collegiate season."
The North Richland Hills, Texas native was the No. 3 seeded player in the 128-player singles draw and picked up win over the Nos. 1 and 2-seeds en route to the tournament title.
Lampasas reached the finals of the ITA Summer Circuit Tournament hosted by UT Arlington which was held July 16-19. Lampasas, a native of Houston, Texas, registered six straight wins to reach the finals where he fell 7-6, 6-0.
"Ciro loves to compete because he's the type of person who feels like he has to prove something every day and I like that about him," said Ecarma. "He is not an entitled athlete as well and grateful for everything he receives. He is lives by the Cardinal motto of "Humble and hungry." His plan is to be in the starting line-up as soon as possible."
