LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville's Olivia Cason, Katie Mitchell, and Laura Restrepo have been named to the all-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Academic Team, the conference office announced this week.
The Cardinals, who tied for the third-most selections in the league, have seen individuals recognized on 25 occasions for their work in the classroom since head coach Courtney Trimble arrived in 2012.
To be eligible for consideration for the all-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00-grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Cason capped a remarkable freshman campaign with a 3.389 grade-point average. The Owensboro, Ky., native became the first freshman in program history to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual and tied for 45th with a 4-over-par 220. She played in nine events during the season, earning four top-10 finishes, and earned NCAA Division I All-Bryan Region honors after tying for sixth at the NCAA Regional Championship in Bryan, Texas.
Mitchell, who was named an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in February, earned all-academic team honors for the second-consecutive season. She earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester and completed her bachelor's degree in communication with a 3.438 GPA. The Jacksonville, Fla., native finished second on the team with a 73.97-stroke average, sixth lowest in a season in school history, while boasting four top-10 finishes.
Restrepo is also a two-time all-academic honoree and earned an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship as well. The Panama native graduated with a 3.523 GPA and a bachelor's degree in finance. She earned Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar accolades each of the last two seasons and is line to be recognized for the third time this year. Restrepo led the team this year in stroke average with a 73.06, second lowest in a season in school history, and also had a team-best five top-10 finishes. Her 10 top-20 finishes are tied for the most in a season at UofL.
