LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville freshman Olivia Cason arrived in Oregon on Wednesday afternoon and opens play at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship on Friday at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene.
Cason, who tees off at 11:25 a.m. ET, is the third student-athlete in program history to qualify as an individual for the national championship and one of 12 participating in the three-day event. She is scheduled to play 18 holes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Should she rank as one of the top nine individuals not on a team advancing to match play, Cason will play an additional round of 18 on Monday for the individual national title that will be televised on the Golf Channel.
The Owensboro, Ky., native is coming off an impressive performance at the NCAA Regional Championship two weeks ago in Bryan, Texas. She tied for sixth behind a 3-under-par 213, tied for the third-lowest score a regional championship in school history, bolstered by a stellar 3-under-par 69 in the second round.
Competing in eight events this year, Cason owns a 4-over-par 75.6 scoring average. She is tied for the second most top-10 finishes on the team with four that includes a tie for fifth at the Mason Rudolph Championship in September. She has shot even or below par in six rounds this year.
