
Cardinals Fall 15-5 to Northwestern on Friday Night

Louisville falls in the NCAA Tournament to Northwestern
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Louisville (12-6) lacrosse team fell 15-5 to Northwestern (11-9) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Senior Cortnee Daley and junior Hannah Koloski scored two goals each to lead the Cardinals.
"A lot of things bounced the other way today and I can say that in our last meeting, a lot of things bounced our way," said head coach Kellie Young. "So it just wasn't our day. Northwestern is a great team and they played well today, I take nothing away from them. They fought really hard and have come a long way. We needed to do the same and we didn't do that today. This team has greatness and I am super proud of them."
The Cardinals fell behind 3-0 in the opening four minutes. Koloski and Daley scored goals to close the initial 3-0 deficit to one, but Northwestern finished the first half on a 6-0 run to take control through the first 30 minutes.
Louisville came out strong to start the second half, holding the Wildcats scoreless in the first 12 minutes. Daley and Kaylin Morissette each scored a goal to begin the second half to cut the Northwestern lead to five.
Northwestern scored their first goal of the half at the 17:29 mark to take a 10-4 lead. Morissette received her second yellow card of the game at the at the 13:59 mark, forcing the senior out of the game. Northwestern then went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-4 lead with 4:37 left in the game.
Koloski scored again for the Cardinals at the 2:43 mark. The Wildcats scored one more time at the 1:27 mark to secure the 15-5 victory.
Northwestern finished with a 27-23 shot advantage while the Cardinals held a 14-8 advantage in draw controls. Mallory Weisse finished the game with a career-high 12 saves while Kelly Gielner finished with three saves. Morissette finished with five draw controls.
