Cards play three matches on Saturday at OVVC
The University of Louisville volleyball team is set to compete at the College Spring Showcase with three regional rivals on tap.Â
The Showcase begins Saturday, April 9 at Ohio Valley Volleyball Center located at 1820 Taylor Ave, in Louisville with tickets set at $5 general admission. Kids agest 5 and under are free. Kids under 13 wearing a KIVA are free. Matches begin at 9:00 a.m.Â
The Cardinals will take on Big Ten opponent Michigan State at 10 a.m. MSU finished the 2015 season with a 19-14 overall record, finishing in a tie for seventh in the Big Ten with a 10-10 record. MSU is one of four schools (along with Nebraska, Penn State, and Purdue) to finish .500 or better in Big Ten play in each of the last five seasons, and the Spartans have won their first-round NCAA Tournament matches in each of the last five seasons as well.
The ACC Champions then square off against Xavier at 12:30 p.m.  Xavier ended its first season under head coach Christy Pfeffenberger with an 18-12 overall record and 14-4 BIG EAST record. The Musketeers are led by junior Abbey Bessler, who was named to the AVCA All-Region Team for the third straight season.
Â
The final matchup of the day will be against Ohio at 2:30. Under second-year head coach Deane Webb, the Bobcats went 25-8 in 2015 -- including a 13-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Ohio captured the 2015 MAC tournament title to earn the league's automatic bid to the national postseason tournament.  Ohio drew No. 13 national seed BYU in the 2015 NCAA Championship First Round. The Bobcats fell to the Cougars, 3-1, in Provo, Utah.
