April 01, 2016 | Rowing
Cardinals will compete against No. 12 Indiana and Iowa on Sunday; racing begins at 10 a.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 15th-ranked Louisville rowing team returns to action on Sunday at the ACC/Big Ten Dual on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Indiana. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Sunday due to high winds forecasted.
The regatta will begin at 10 a.m., ET with the Cardinals racing against No. 12 Indiana and Iowa. Notre Dame was originally slated to race in the event but was not able to compete with the date change. The teams will compete in varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four, novice/third varsity eight and third varsity races. Fans can listen to audio of the action for free by clicking here.
"We're excited to be racing and we appreciate the willingness of everyone at Indiana and Iowa to change the dates and adjust the race schedules so that we could all compete this weekend," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "We really need to race and though we've been on the water a lot and been racing a lot, this will give us another chance to see where we really stack up. Iowa seems to be getting faster and faster and I expect them to be pretty strong. Indiana has been in the top tier of the NCAA finals the last couple of years, so checking our speed against those two teams will be important for us."
In its last outing, Louisville earned five wins at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational as well as 10 runner-up finishes against ranked competition during the two-day event. Four of the Cardinals' race wins in Oak Ridge included victories over Notre Dame.
Following the event in Oak Ridge, Louisville moved to No. 15 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I poll on March 22 and maintained that position this week. Indiana is ranked 12th in this week's coaches poll, while Iowa is among the team's outside the Top 20 receiving votes.
