
Lacrosse Opens Season Against Marquette on Saturday

Cardinals kick off the 2016 season against Marquette at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will open the 2016 season on Saturday as they host Marquette at 2:00 p.m. at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.Â
Louisville returns eight starters from the 2015 team that finished with a No. 18 ranking by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. In its first season in the ACC, Louisville arguably played one of their toughest schedules in program history, finishing with an overall record of 10-8. Â The Cardinals secured a second consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to No. 9 Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Louisville returns four of their top-five scorers, including top scorer Kaylin Morissette (44g, 18a), who was an IWLCA First Team All-American in 2015. As a team, Louisville averaged over 12.5 goals per game, while allowing just 9.5 goals against.
The Golden Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 5-12 in 2015 and welcome back 28 letterwinners, including nine starters from 2015. Among them are senior captains Elizabeth Gosslee (All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2015) and Kayce Haverstick. As a team, Marquette averaged 7.53 goals per game, while allowing 9.94 goals against.
Marquette and Louisville have met twice before, but not since 2014 with the Cardinals, then-ranked No. 18-nationally, came away with a 12-5 win in Louisville. Â Louisville leads the all-time series, 2-0.
