Henderson wins the shot put with a school record throw
BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Emmonnie Henderson set a new school record to win the women's shot put at the Hoosier Open on Friday evening. Dolly Nyemah finished second in the women's weight throw to open up her indoor season.
"Emmonnie had the best series of her career with half of her throws crossing the 55' barrier," said head coach Dale Cowper. "She was very patient tonight and that led to a new school record. Dolly was able to work through a challenging start to finish runner up tonight. It was good to see her overcome and compete well in the final.'
Henderson threw a personal best of 17.02m/55'9 in her second throw. She threw 17.17m/56'4" in her fourth throw to set a new school record and win the event for the second time this season. She broke Khadija Abdullah's record of 17.06m/55'11.75" set at the 2013 Big East Championships.
Nyemah threw a 19.68m/64'7" in her final throw to finish second. It was the first throw of the season for the redshirt senior.
"As a whole, our program has had a great fall training phase," said Cowper. "We look forward to getting things going again when the students return for spring semester classes."
