Worrell Wins Fifth Medal at FINA Short Course World Championships

Kelsi wins silver in the 50-M butterfly
 University of Louisville swimmer Kelsi Worrell touched second in the 50-M butterfly for a silver medal at the FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada. It is her fifth medal and second silver in four days of competition.

The top qualifier, Worrell was just out-touched by Denmark's Jeanette Ottesen who clocked a 24.92, the only swimmer in the field under 24 seconds. Japan's Rikako Ikee, was third with a time of 25.32.

Kelsi Worrell won gold as a part of the Mixed 4x50 Medley Relay. Olympic medalist Tom Shields (23.45), Lilly King (28.74), Worrell (24.59) and Michael Chadwick anchored with a 20.44 combined for the winning time of 1:37.22.

WEDNESDAY
Kelsi Worrell helped the women's 4x50 medley relay team set a world record of 2:02.89 with a split of 24.44. The Americans beat the former world mark by more than a second and were almost two body lengths ahead of the field. Ali DeLoof (26.12), Lilly King (28.78) Worrell (24.44) and Katrina Konopka (23.93) combined for the new mark.

In a tough double, Kelsi Worrell competed in the next women's race for the 200 fly final. The fastest qualifier, she clocked in at 2:03.94 in prelims, she shaved a second off that time with 2:02.89 for the silver medal and a new American Record. She is the first American woman to go under 2:03.

Louisville's  Kelsi Worrell put up one of three 51 second splits with a 51.04 on the 2nd leg to lead the United States to a gold in the women's 400 free relay. She teamed up with Amanda Weir (52.95), Madison Kennedy (52.84), and Cardinal Mallory Comerford (51.99), who had the other 51 split in the team's winning time of 3:28.82.
