Claverie sets Venezuelan record, Tarasevich advances to final
University of Louisville had four swimmers compete in the FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Ontario Tuesday evening.

Louisville's  Kelsi Worrell put up one of three 51 second splits with a 51.04 on the 2nd leg to lead the United States to a gold in the women's 400 free relay. She teamed up with Amanda Weir (52.95), Madison Kennedy (52.84), and Cardinal Mallory Comerford (51.99), who had the other 51 split in the team's winning time of 3:28.82.

In the women's 200 free, favorite Katinka Hosszu (1:52.28) faded in the last lap allowing Italy's Federica Pellegrini, to take the gold in 1:51.73
The American's had NCAA and ACC stars Louisville's Mallory Comerford (1:53.79) and Virginia's (Leah Smith (1:54.49) taking 5th and 7th respectively.

In the men's 100-back semifinals, Russia's Andrei Shabasov was the top seed with a 49.71 to lead the field. His teammate, UofL's Grigory Tarasevich (50.54), qualified 6th for the final, making Russia the only country with two swimmers in the top eight.

Cardinal Carlos Claverie broke the national Venezuelan record in the 100 breast prelims, posting a time of 57.81 but went 58.22 for 15th place in the final.
