Cards post six wins on day two of the tournament
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Nicolas Rouanet posted two wins to reach the doubles finals of the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic.
"Chris was close to being in both singles and doubles finals but lost a thrilling match against Sasha Gozun who is a big-time player and probably on his way to being an All-American," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Santi had a nice run in the consolation, but lost a close tie-breaker or he would have been in the consolation finals. So the Cardinals are looking good this weekend."
Morin-Kougoucheff and Rouanet opened the day with an 8-6 win against George Washington's Julius Tverjones and Chris Reynolds to advance to the semifinals where they beat USF's Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy 8-4.
"Chris and Nicolas played some amazing shots which the crowd absolutely loved over here and now they have a chance to win a championship," said Ecarma. "This is their first tournament together and they have great chemistry. I am sure there will be a nice crowd here to be entertained tomorrow."
In singles action, Morin-Kougoucheff won a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Duke's Catalin Mateus, but
Junior Santiago Salazar defeated Princeton's Jonathan Carcione 6-2, 7-5 to reach the consolation semifinals where he fell 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 to Princeton's Davey Roberts.
Also playing consolation matches, Rouanet defeated George Washington's Chris Reynolds 6-2, ret. And Lampasas beat Princeton's Eduardo Paz 6-3, 7-6.
