Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff wil play in singles quarterfinals will team with Nicolas Rouanet in doubles quarterfinals
University of Louisville sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff advanced to the singles quarterfinals and will join junior Nicolas in the doubles quarterfinals of the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic after Friday's action.
"We have a doubles team and a singles player in the quarterfinals tomorrow," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Chris played solidly today and I am excited for both of his quarterfinal matches tomorrow. Nicolas lost an extremely close match to the No. 2 seed and Santi had a barn-burner with the No. 1 player from Florida Gulf Coast."
Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) defeated Florida's Stephen Madonia 6-3, 6-1 in his opening round picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win over George Washington's Chris Reynolds. Junior Nicolas Rouanet (Gujan Mestres, France) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 first round win over North Florida's Zach Goldberg, but fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to the tournament's No. 2 seed Sasha Gozun.
After losing a first round battle to Florida Gulf Coast's Andres Alfonso 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 junior Santiago Salazar (Medellin, Colombia) rebounded to defeat Navy's Andrey Majkic 6-2, 6-4.
Junior Ciro Lampasas (Houston, Texas) defeated North Florida's Jonathan Deautriell 7-5 in the first set, but went on to lose the next two sets 6-3, 6-3. Lamapasas fell 6-2, 6-4 to Princeton's Davey Roberts in his consolation match.
In doubles action, Morin-Kougoucheff and Rouanet advanced to the quarterfinals after Florida Gulf Coast's Ezequiel Cerrini and Javier Fernandez defaulted in their first round match. Lampasas and Salazar were edged by UCF's Harrison Richmond and Mariano Porter 8-7.
