November 22, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Cards will play 21 matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. –University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has released its 2017 spring schedule which includes four teams that finished last season ranked among the top 25 in the nation.
Â
The Cardinals will play 21 matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center including defending national champion, top-ranked Virginia and No. 5 North Carolina. Also included on the Louisville's slate are nine 2016 NCAA tournament teams and 13 top 75 opponents.
Â
"We have a great schedule for our tennis fans to see some high level tennis at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We start out with a strong tournament in Florida and then play some tough Big Ten teams. We will host defending national champion Virginia to start off our ACC season and play some good regional teams in between ACC matches. So we have plenty of opportunities to get back into the national rankings and we are excited about that."
Â
The Cardinals will kick off the season January 14 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla., before at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on January 20 with a double header against Belmont and Chicago State.
Â
After a trip to Northwestern, Louisville will play host to Alabama A&M and Purdue before opening ACC play against defending national champion Virginia on Feb. 5 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Â The Cards will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take on Indiana University before returning home for a doubleheader against Austin Peay and Illinois State. A trip to Boston College precedes an 11-match home stand that starts on February 23 and ends on April 2.
Â
The month of April features a four-match road swing before returning to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to wrap up the season three straight matches including the Cards' ACC finale against No. 5 North Carolina and a senior day match against IUPUI on April 23.
Â
The 2017 ACC Tennis Championships will take place April 26-30 in Rome, Ga. Â
