
Worrell, Comerford and Cottrell Lead Team USA to Day 1 Lead at USA College Challenge

Three Cardinals, Andrea Cottrell, Kelsi Worrell and Mallory Comerford, are representing the the USA National Team at the USA College Challenge Saturday evening at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis. The USA leads an all-star team from the Big Ten Conference 185-111 after the first day of competition.  Â
The USA Women are coached by UofL head coach Arthur Albiero and saw Cards involved in four wins and an American record in the first day of competition. Â
In the 400-medley relay, Team USA's Ali DeLoof (50.59) , Andrea Cottrell (57.61) , Kelsi Worrell (49.36), and Amanda Weir (48.04) combined for 3:25.60, a US Open and American Record Â
In the 100-free, USA's Ali Deloof led in the front half halfway of the race before. UofL's Mallory Comerford showed outside heat to sneak in for the win 47.36 Comerford, Deloof and Madison Kennedy go 1-3-5 for Team USA, adding 13 points. Â
In the 200 breast USA/Cardinal Andrea Cottrell had to face the best of the B1G including Olympic gold medalist Lilly King, who also won this event at B1G championship. King posted a 2:05.64, just holding off B1G teammate Kierra Smith (2:05.83). Andrea Cottrell touched third with a 2:08.33. Â
UofL's gold medallist Kelsi Worrell won the 100-fly for the USA women with a time of 50.46 Zhesi Li (51.42) and Gia Dalesandro (51.93) of B1G were second and third respectively. Â
In the 800 free relay, USA B-relay of Mallory Comerford (1:44.25), Worrell (1:44.72), Kirsten Vose (1:43.14), and Leah Smith (1:43.98) combined for the winning time of 6:56.09.
