
Hartlage Leads Women's Golf on First Day of Cougar Classic

Lauren Hartlage shot a season-best 3-under-par 69 in the first round.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lauren Hartlage shot a season-low 3-under-par 69 on Sunday at the Cougar Classic and helped the University of Louisville women's golf team into 10th following the first day of action in Hanahan, S.C.
A freshman, Hartlage compiled five birdies compared to only two bogeys on the day and is tied for sixth on the 108-player, individual leaderboard. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native entered the event second on the team in scoring average at 75.00 and currently boasts one of the top par-5 averages in the field with a 4.50.
Collectively, the Cardinals had two players complete the day in the top 15 and concluded the opening round with a 1-over-par 289 – a season best – and 12 strokes behind the clubhouse leader Furman. While Louisville, part of a 21-team field, was toward the middle of the pack on par-3 and par-4 holes, the team logged an impressive 4.80 on par-5s.
Skapik, who is sitting in a tie for 15th, shot a 2-under-par 70 – her first round this season even or below par. The junior recorded a 1-under-par on both the front nine and back nine, totaling only one bogey over the course of the day. Her 14 pars are tied for the seventh most in the field.
Olivia Cason, tied for 51st at 2-over-par 74, and Jacqueline Twitty, tied for 81st at 4-over-par 76, rounded out the Cardinals' scoring.
Louisville is set to tee off in the second round on Tuesday with Clemson and Mississippi State at 8 a.m. ET.
