Louisville men finish 23rd while the women finish 28th in Terre Haute on Saturday afternoon
Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's (16-5, 4-0) cross country team finished 23rd and the women (17-6, 5-0) finished 28th at the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind. Calvin Chemoiywo led the men with a fifth place finish while Dorcas Wasike led the women with 30th place finish.
"I was very proud of our efforts at the front today in one of the most competitive fields we will deal with prior to ACC," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Dorcas did a solid job coming off an injury, following the Vanderbilt meet. She has had limited training and I was impressed with her fight. Calvin and Edwin covered the initial move by the NCAA champion from Oregon and really had very solid runs to close it out. I feel our women are on the cusp of a breakthrough soon and excited to see if they can put it together at championship time. The men have to get better at the 3-5 position as we move forward."
After missing the last meet with an injury, Wasike returned to lead the women with a season best time of 20:46.9 to finish 30th. Sophomore Caroline Gosser also had a season best time of 21:37.6 to finish 120th.
Junior Mia Ross clocked a 21:58.0 in her first 6K of the season to finish 172nd. Aurilla Wilson finished with a personal best time of 22:07.7 to finish 189th.
Freshman Bailey Beery was the next finisher for the Cardinals with a time of 22:08.7. Sophomore Abigail Wright also finished with a personal best time of 22:28.9 while senior Claire Noser finished with a time of 22:35.7.
Chemoiywo was just shy of his personal best, finishing fifth with a time of 24:07.7. Edwin Kibichiy finished just two tenths of a second behind his teammate. Kibichiy finished sixth with a time of 24:09.7.
Senior Jonathan Reynolds clocked a time of 25:57.1 to finish 197th. George Yator finished with a time of 26:18.5. Freshman Julien Magallanes finished with a time of 26:31.1 while Holden Wells finished with a time of 29:51.3.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Oct. 28 at the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C.
