
Track and Field Wraps Up Day One of the Indiana Relays

Wash and Henderson lead the Cardinals with wins in the long jump and shot put
Bloomington, Ind. – The University of Louisville track and field teams finished with two wins on the first day of competition at the Indiana Relays. Bre'Yana Wash won her third straight in the long jump while Emmonnie Henderson won her second straight in the shot put.
Wash continued to stand out in the long jump on Friday. She won her third consecutive long jump with a personal best of 6.21m/20-04.50. Wash was close to breaking the school record of 6.23 set back in 2009. Henderson won her second straight in the shot put with a mark of 16.34m/53-07.50.
Overall the Cardinals finished with six top-3 finishes on the first day. Freshman Raven Grant continued to impress, finishing third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.31. Grant also finished fourth in the 60m dash prelims with a time of 7.59, qualifying for the final.
Claire Noser finished second in the 5000m run with a personal best time of 17:12.08. Leah Kiyohara finished fourth in the event with a time of 17:38.16. The women's distance medley relay team of Aurilla Wilson, Kelsey Cramsey, Mia Ross and Benadate Cheruiyot finished second with a time of 11:54.93.
Four Cardinals advanced to the women's 60m hurdle finals. Brianne Brown, Alexis Murry, Holly Hankenson and Sydney Hill will compete tomorrow in the finals. Brown led the Cardinals in the prelims, finishing third with a time of 8.65. Grant and Brown qualified for the 60m dash finals as well.
On the men's side, Japhet Kipkoech finished fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 14:39.31. Sophomore Josh Hall finished fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.97.
Day two of the Indiana Relays will resume at 11:00AM with the women's weight throw and mile run. The finals of the 60m dash and 60m hurdles will follow the mile run.
