
Cross Country Opens 2015 Season with Two Wins at Evansville Early Bird Invite

Both men and women win in Evansville
EVANSVILLE, IND. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2015 season with wins at the Evansville Early Bird Invite on Saturday afternoon. Claire Noser led the women's team with a first place finish while Japhet Kipkoech led the men with a second place finish.
"It was a great start to the season for both squads, picking up victories on a hot and humid day in Evansville," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Claire Noser and Japhet Kipkoech both showed they have had tremendous summer training sessions. Our staff couldn't be happier with the work each of them have put in since last spring."
The women had seven athletes finish in the top 10. Noser paced the women's field with a career best 5K time of 18:07.7. Freshman Aurilla Wilson finished second with a time of 18:17.6 while senior Benadate Cheruiyot finished third with a time of 18:23.4.
Senior Leah Kiyohara finished fifth with a time of 18:45.3 while sophomore Bailey Davis finished sixth with a time of 18:52.5. Mia Ross and Kelsey Cramsey rounded out the Cardinals' top 10 finishers. Ross finished eighth with a time of 18:56.5 while Cramsey finished ninth with a time of 18:56.8.
John Mascari of Indiana State paced the men's field with a time of 24:48.7. Kipkoech finished second with a time of 24:57.1. Five of the Cardinals' six runners finished in the top 10. Redshirt junior Edwin Kibichiy was just seconds behind Kipkoech, finishing third with a time of 24:58.1.
Newcomer Calvin Chemoiywo finished fourth in his Louisville debut with a time of 25:31.7. Matt Stephenson finished seventh with a time of 26:27.1 while Ernest Kibet finished ninth with a time of 26:43.5. Freshman Daniel Fleace finished 13th in his first race with a time of 27:12.5.
Louisville will be back in action on Sept. 19 as they travel to the Vanderbilt Invitational.
