
Men's Cross Country Wins the Commodore Classic While the Women Finish Ninth

Cardinal men notch second win of the season while the women get another Top 10 finish
NASHVILLE, TENN. – The University of Louisville men's cross country team won its second consecutive meet on Saturday afternoon at the Commodore Classic in Percy Warner Park. The Louisville women finished ninth for another Top 10 finish on the year.
"It was another good day for our men's squad," said head coach Dale Cowper. "They executed the race plan at a very high level. Japhet continues to impress us in the early season and it was exciting for him to pick up his first collegiate victory today. "
Senior Japhet Kipkoech had another impressive race for his first collegiate win of his career. Kipkoech paced the field with an 8K time of 24:34.6. Junior Edwin Kibichiy finished second with a time of 24:35.7 while Calvin Chemoiywo finished fifth with a season best time of 24:50.5.
Senior Ernest Kibet finished 14th with a time of 25:12.1. Rounding out the Matt Stephenson and Daniel Fleace rounded out the Cardinal finishers, Stephenson finished 31st with a time of 25:40.2 while Fleace finished 81st with a time of 26:35.1.
"The ladies took the opportunity to run as a pack and grow team synergy this weekend," said Cowper. "They were able to pick up season best performances from Wilson, Herd and Bunch."
Freshman Aurilla Wilson led the women's team with a season best 5K time of18:15.4. Junior Claire Noser finished 72nd with a time of 18:20.5 while Leah Kiyohara finished 78th with a career best time of 18:23.1.
Freshman Hannah Herd clocked a season best time of 18:30.0 to finish 90th. Alex Bunch also finished with a career best time of 18:41.5 to finish 104th. Sophomore Mia Ross finished 122nd with a time of 18:54.1 while Abigail Wright finished 125th with a season best time of 18:57.0 to round out the Louisville runners.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Oct. 3 at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
"We look forward to getting both squads back in action in two weeks at the Greater Louisville Classic," Cowper said.
