
Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season at the Pre-Nationals on Saturday

Men finish 11th in Red race while women finish fifth in the Black race
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville men's cross country team finished 11th in the seeded Red race while the women finished fifth in the unseeded Black race at the Pre-Nationals Meet on Saturday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
"Our men's squad faced some adversity today as four of the seven runners ended up on the ground during the race," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Ultimately we have to do a better job of moving through these scenarios and continuing to reduce the gap from our first to fifth runners."
Junior Edwin Kibichiy led the Cardinals with a 13th place finish. Kibichiy clocked a season best time of 23:34.0. Senior Japhet Kipkoech continues to impress in his senior season. Kipkoech finished 23rd with a personal best time of 23:41.3. Ernest Kibet finished 43rd for the Cardinals with a season best time of 23:52.9.
Newcomer Calvin Chemoiywo finished 77th with a season best time of 24:12.1. Senior Kyle Covert finished with a season best time of 25:16.3 to finish at 245th. Freshman Daniel Fleace finished with time of 25:40.7 at 270th while Matt Stephenson finished 277th with a time of 25:52.3.
"The women's squad did a great job of competing today," said Cowper. "It was their first 6K race of the year and they used it to build positive momentum before we travel to the ACC Championships in two weeks."
Senior Benadate Cheruiyot led the women with a time of 21:07.9 in the first 6K race of the season to finish 11th. Junior Claire Noser finished with a personal best time of 21:29.3 to finish 30th. Sophomore Mia Ross finished 50th with a personal best time of 21:47.3.
Leah Kiyohara also clocked a personal best time of 22:04.0 to finish 74th. Sophomore Bailey Davis ran a personal best time of 18:22.66. Kelsey Cramsey ran a season best time of 22:13.4 to finished 87th. Freshman Aurilla Wilson finished 95th in her first 6K with a time of 22:17.2. Sophomore Bailey Davis finished with a personal best time of 22:34.5 to finish 121st.
Three athletes ran in the women's open race. Freshman Hannah Herd finished 16th with a time of 21:59.0 in her first collegiate 6K. Alex Bunch finished 29th with a personal best time of 22:21.4. Freshman Abigail Wright finished 51st with a time of 22:49.1.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Oct. 30 at the ACC Championships in Tallahassee, Fla.
