Cardinals begin postseason at ACC Championship in Tallahassee

The Field: The race will feature men's and women's squad from all 15 ACC member institutions. The men's field boasts four teams ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll, including No. 2 Syracuse, No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 NC State, and No. 18 Virginia Tech. The women's field includes five ranked squads including No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 NC State, No. 16 Syracuse, No. 17 Notre Dame, and No. 29 North Carolina.

After a strong showing at the prestigious Pre-Nationals event that was held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, the University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on one of the most challenging fields they have faced this season at the ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 30.

The ACC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Florida State University, will be televised on ESPN3 with the men's race beginning at 9:03 a.m. and the women's race immediately following at 9:45 a.m.

The Louisville men have posted four top-15 finishes including two team victories this season. After starting off his senior year with a second place finish, Japhet Kipkoech picked up his first collegiate victory to lead the men to a victory at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The Cardinal women have also posted four top-15 finishes including a victory in the first meet of the season. Claire Noser led the Cardinals with a first place finish in a career best time of 18:07.7 in the 5K event.
At the Pre-Nationals event where the Cardinals competed with the nation's top programs, the men finished 11th while the women took fifth in the unseeded race. Junior Edwin Kibichiy led the Cardinal men with a 13th place and clocked a season best time of 23:34.0. Senior Japhet Kipkoech continued his impressive senior campaign with a personal best time of 23:41.3 and finished 23rd. Ernest Kibet clocked a season best 23:52.9 en route to a 43rd place finish. Calvin Chemoiywo finished with a season best time of 24:12.1 along with Kyle Covert who clocked a time of 25:16.3, which was also a season best.
Competing in their first 6K race of the season in preparation for the ACC Championships, the women posted a fifth place finish in the unseeded race at Pre-Nationals. Senior Benadate Cheruiyot paced the Cardinals with a 21:07.9 to finish 11th. Junior Claire Noser clocked a personal best time of 21:29.3 to finish 30th and sophomore Mia Ross finished 50th with a personal best time of 21:47.3.
Following the ACC Cross Country Championships, athletes will participate in the NCAA Southeast Regional that will be held at Panorama Farms, Va., on Nov. 13.
