The Cardinal men had four runners finish in the Top 20
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Louisville men's cross country team had four runners finish in the Top 20, leading the Cardinals to a fifth place finish, while the women's team finished 13th at the ACC Championship held at Apalachee Regional Park on Friday afternoon.
"We're excited about the way our front four competed on the men's side," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Our fifth man tried to be a hero and ended up falling short today. I'm optimistic that this squad can continue to grow over the coming weeks. If the guys stick to their individual race plans we can have an outstanding result at the Southeast Regional in two weeks."
Junior Edwin Kibichiy led the Cardinals with a third place finish. Kibichiy clocked a season best time of 23:30.6 to lead the Cardinals. Senior Ernest Kibet finished 12th with a time of 23:57.8. Senior Japhet Kipkoech finished 14th for the Cardinals with a time of 23:59.9.
Newcomer Calvin Chemoiywo clocked a personal best time of 24:07.0 to finish 17th. Freshman Daniel Fleace finished 97th with a time of 25:56.7. Senior Kyle Covert finished with a time of 26:03.6 to finish 103rd while Matt Stephenson finished at 109th with a time of 26:18.8.
"Our ladies competed hard and simply fell short of what the group was capable of," said Cowper. "We'll regroup for the regional race and look to reverse the momentum we saw today."
Senior Benadate Cheruiyot led the women with a time of 21:11.3 to finish 32nd. Junior Claire Noser finished with a personal best time of 21:44.6 to finish 55th. Freshman Aurilla Wilson clocked a personal best time of 22:13.4 to finish 73rd. Sophomore Mia Ross finished 82nd with a time of 22:21.3.
Freshman Hannah Herd finished 86th with a time of 22:22.5 while Kelsey Cramsey finished 89th with a time of 22:25.2. Senior Leah Kiyohara finished with a time of 22:29.6 to finish 96th. Junior Alex Bunch finished 105th with a time of 22:41.6 while freshman Abigail Wright finished 114th with a time of 22:59.5.
