Molly Sauer Takes Her Turn on the Volleyblog

Hello everybody!
The city of Louisville has never felt so exciting to me. You can just feel the energy and smell the morning breath at 5:00 breakfast. Luckily 4:30 wake up calls are behind us now that classes are over and we get to sleep in tomorrow! By sleeping in I mean a casual alarm clock at 6:30 suddenly seems like luxury. Zach Farrel's smoothies this morning were such a blessing; one of God's greatest gifts. I think we would all wake up at 5:00 just to get a smoothie.
This morning we were really excited to get through the ball handling drills a little faster than yesterday. Needless to say, we are improving each and every session. There is still a lot of room for work but everyone is getting after it. We worked a lot on serve and pass during our first session with Alyssa D'Errico. I think our legs are about to tear apart from all the squatting done in just these first two days. After our first session ended, some of us headed to class for our last day. It was an exciting one when we learned Roxanne McVey got a B on her finance final!
During our break, most of us spent the entire time napping, except for when we had rehab…..I get knots in my stomach every time before walking into the training room knowing what trainer Nicole Lowery has in store for us in sports medicine. Today I very much enjoyed an elbow to the glutes. When I say elbow, I mean her elbow and the rest of her entire body weight* rubbing my muscle out. For lunch, most of us enjoyed some left over pasta from last night's dinner. You can never go hungry with the amount of food we have upstairs.
During our second session we opened again with serve and pass. After that, we did a few defensive drills. The amount of bruises and discoloration on our bodies is really scary actually. The coaches aren't holding back on these drills. I think they might be just as sore as we are, or at least that's what Anne Kordes thinks when she's sitting in the ice bath with us every night. We all died a little bit today when Erin Fairs literally tripped over some air. She wins the award for the most clumsy. After a long day and a lot of hard work, we settled into the ice bath. I'm not really sure what the ice bath did to Roxanne McVey but it got her a little emotional when she started crying over how cold it was.
We finished our day with a little educational session about defensive strategies and positions. It's about 10:00 now and I couldn't be more ready to go to bed. One more day of preseason in the books!
* Editor's Note: Nicole Lowery weighs 90 lbs with her shoes on. Maybe. :)
