Edwin Kibichiy and Emmonnie Henderson Lead the Cardinals on Day Two at the ACC Outdoor Championship

Edwin Kibichiy and Emmonnie Henderson led the Louisville Track and Field teams on day two at the ACC Outdoor Championship with wins in the 3000m steeplechase and the shot put. Kibichiy set a new ACC meet record while Josh Hall and Linda Mutter set a new school records and five athletes earned All-ACC honors. After seven events scored, the women currently stand in third place while the men stand in fourth place.
"Today we saw clutch performances from both Emmonnie Henderson and Edwin Kibichiy," said head coach Dale Cowper.
Kibichiy set an ACC Championship record and a new personal best, winning the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:33.78. This was Kibichiy's first ACC win.
"Edwin took the steeplechase from the gun and closed out the race against an outstanding field," said Cowper. "He was simply awesome tonight en route to a new ACC meet record in the steeplechase."
In the women's steeplechase, Benadate Cheruiyot earned second team All-ACC honors with a fifth place finish. Cheruiyot finished with a personal best time of 10:16.35. Claire Noser finished 14th with a new personal best time of 10:53.99.
Henderson sealed the shot put win with a new personal best throw of 17.09m (56-1) in her sixth and final attempt. She passed Sarah Howard of North Carolina and NC State's Tremanisha Taylor for the win.
"Emmonnie responded to being passed by a young lady from North Carolina and NC State in the fifth round by hitting a new personal best in the sixth round for the win," explained Cowper. "She is at her best when she gets challenged and she was definitely challenged today."
Also in the shot put, Rachel Serafin finished 12th with a throw of 13.27m (43-6½). On the men's side, Steve Wade finished 13th with a throw of 16.13m (52-11).
Wrapping up the field events for the day, Javen Reeves earned second team All-ACC honors in the high jump. Reeves finished with a mark of 2.05m (6-8¾) to finish fifth.
In the preliminaries, Hall and Kayla Tyson advanced to the finals in their respective events on Saturday. Tyson finished fourth with a time of 11.76 in the 100m dash. Zachery Main finished 11th with a time of 10.87 in the men's 100m preliminaries.
Hall continued his momentum into the weekend, breaking the school record of 46.97 he set last week in the 400m dash. He finished sixth with a record time of 46.68 to qualify for the finals. Antoine Keys finished with a time of 47.93 to finish 15th. Carlos Coleman finished 27th with a time of 48.92 and Andrew Nsuk finished 28th with a time of 48.93.
On the women's side, Taylor Bradley finished 16th with a new personal best time of 54.96. La'Bianca Frazier finished 26th with a time of 56.67.
Kelsey Cramsey finished ninth in the 800m prelims with a time of 2:08.70. On the men's side, Teague Peck finished 17th with a time of 1:51.93.
Brianne Brown finished 11th in the 100m hurdle prelims with a time of 13.90. Zahara Gully finished 19th with a time of 14.44.
Wrapping up the multi events, Mutter finished sixth in the heptathlon to earn second team All-ACC honors. Mutter's total of 5038 was a personal best while also setting a new school record. She passed Jen Carlson's record of 4986 set in 2000. She wrapped up the final day with a sixth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.49m (18-¼ ). She then threw a personal best of 36.09m (118-5) in the javelin to finish fifth. She finished the day with a sixth place finish in the 800m run with a personal best time of 2:21.47.
In the men's decathlon, freshman Eric Fox finished 11th with a score of 5976. He finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 35.30m (115-10). Fox finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.87m (15-11¾) and finished fifth in the javelin throw with a throw of 48.49m (159-1).
