LOUISVILLE, Ky, - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that George Hedley has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2015.
"I am excited to bring George Hedley to the team," said Ecarma. "George has been a very accomplished tennis player in Great Britain. He has been one of their elite players for several years. He can play singles and doubles which I appreciate. He has an all-court type of game which suits my coaching style. We have competed against British players often the last three seasons and they have had success against us, so I know they are producing college-ready players over there. George is a good listener and team player so he will fit in our culture right away."
Hedley joins the Cardinals from Berkshire, Great Britain where he has been ranked as high as fourth nationally in Boys 18s and was the top-ranked Boys 16 player. In singles, he was a national quarterfinalist in 2013 and also reached the quarterfinals of the Nottingham ITF and Sweden Junior Open ITF. Hedley has won five Grade 2 British National Singles Titles. While playing at the 14 and Under level, Hedley reached the round of 32 in the Orange Bowl.
He has also produced an impressive doubles resume during his junior career. He was the British doubles runner-up in 2013 and won the Boys 16 title in 2012. Hedley also reached the semifinals of the Nottingham ITF and the Serbian Junior Open ITF.
"The Hedleys will be a great addition to the Cardinal tennis family," said Ecarma. "George had a great visit and he comes from an extremely supportive family. His dad, Richard, and I spent time together during his visit and are definitely on the same page."
