No. 10 Lacrosse Defeats Longwood 15-4

Faye Brust and Hannah Koloski scored four goals apiece to lead No. 10 Louisville to a 15-4 win over Longwood on Wednesday afternoon. Kaylin Morissette finished with a school record 18 draw controls, breaking her previous record of 14. The Cardinals improve to 8-2 on the year while Longwood falls to 2-8.
"Ashley Peacock had a tremendous game both in and out of the crease," said head coach Kellie Young. "She was a leader for the entire game, keeping us focused and attacking the game. We have a lot to learn from today despite the win. We must execute all 60 minutes and we must be able to make game time changes to our plan. Today we learn, tomorrow we turn our attention to Northwestern."
Louisville started the game scoring seven straight goals in the first 25 minutes. Morissette got the Cardinals on the board, scoring at the 28:26 mark. Louisville then scored three straight goals in a minute span. Cortnee Daley started the run while Koloski and Carissa Corbett also scored for a 4-0 lead.
In the 19th minute Koloski found the back of the net again on a free position shot. Then at the 13:38 mark Cat Gordon also scored on a free position shot for a 6-0 lead. Brust capped the scoring run with a goal with 5:56 left in the half. Longwood scored on a free position shot with 2:24 left in the half to cut the Louisville lead to 7-1 at the break.
After winning the draw to start the second half, Morissette scored on a free position shot for an 8-1 lead. Longwood scored a few minutes later to cut the Louisville lead to 8-2. Louisville answered with two goals of their own. Corbett scored on a free position shot and Brust also scored on a free position shot to put the Cards up 10-2 early in the half.
Longwood's Sarah Butler scored two straight goals to cut the Louisville lead to 10-4 with 21 minutes remaining in the half. The Cardinals responded by scoring five straight goals and holding Longwood scoreless in the final 20 minutes.
Koloski scored her third goal of the game to start the scoring run for the Cardinals. Corbett found Anna Kopecka in the 12th minute for a goal. Brust then scored two consecutive goals, one on a free position shot and then Daley found her 30 seconds later for her fourth goal of the game. Koloski capped the scoring run with an unassisted goal at the 6:15 mark, sealing the 15-4 win for the Cardinals.
Louisville outshot Longwood 37-20 and led 35-20 in shots on goal. Ashley Peacock recorded seven saves in goal for the Cards, while Brittany Read also saw time in goal and finished with four saves. Christian Acker finished with 20 saves for the Lancers. Peacock also led the team five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The Cards will be in action again on Sunday, March 29 as they travel to No. 4 Northwestern. The game time is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be aired live on the Big Ten Network.
