The University of Louisville men's tennis team swept Austin Peay on Saturday evening at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to record its second win of the day.
"Today, especially, I think that we showed our experience on the court," said senior Luis Elizondo. "It's also nice to see some of the freshmen out there playing. I played with Pally (Ray) and I must say he really stepped up. Apart from that, we really showed our experience. It was six seniors playing out there today. Jeffrey Brown also gave us a second point right away, so I was really happy with our performance today." The Cards (6-2) won the doubles point when the No. 2 doubles pair of Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown took down Aaron Jumonville and Aleksas Tverjonas 6-3. Luis Elizondo and Pally Ray secured the point for Louisville by defeating Oleg Drobysh and Manuel Montenegro 6-2 in No. 3 doubles.
Louisville did not back down after winning the first point of the match and claimed victories in the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots to seal the 4-0 win. Jeffrey Brown won the first singles point for the Cards, defeating Drobysh 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. Chris Simich won his second singles match of the day, taking down Montenegro 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. No. 1 singles player Sebastian Stiefelmeyer defeated Dimitar Ristovski 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the final point for the Cards.
With the win, head coach Rex Ecarma now has 391 career victories and is nine wins away from breaking the 400 mark.
The Cards will return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 18 when they host Illinois State and Chicago State at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
