Opening night of the Arena Pro Swim Series at Orlando, Florida showcased University of Louisville star and three-time NCAA Champion Joao De Lucca in his signature event the 200-freestyle.
The Cards' alum, Joao De Lucca, won the 200-free, beating US Olympian Conor Dwyer (1:48.94) and University of Michigan great Michael Wynalda (1:48.47).
According to SwimSwam.com, the former Louisville star "has a penchant for scorching through the front half of a 200 free, burning away his biggest competitors and then hanging on for the win despite some obvious pain. Just as he did so many times at the NCAA level, de Lucca went out with some major guts and held on for a dominant win in 1:47.98."
Bobby Hurley, an Australian, went 1:49.80 for fourth, the last guy under 1:50 on the night. The Woodlands/Texas Longhorn's Michael McBroom went 1:50.59, touching out Dion Dreesens of SwimMAC (1:50.64) and Kyle Whitaker, another Michigan grad, (1:50.75) for fifth. Rounding out the A final was SwimMAC's French swimmer Greg Mallet in 1:54.96.
