Gornet and Brown fall in singles quarterfinals
The University of Louisville's Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet lost their quarterfinal singles matches at the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic Saturday.
"Jeff was five points away from winning his match when he was in the third and final set," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He had four opportunities to go up 5-4. Langmo played No. 1 singles for Miami against us last year. Alex started down 1-5 in the first set and got it to a tiebreaker, but made errors in the tiebreaker. He got up 3-1 in the second set and was not able to raise his game. The seniors learned from this experience and enjoyed the hospitality of this special event."
In his quarterfinal match, senior Alex Gornet fell 7-6(5), 6-2 to Minnesota's Ruben Weber. Also playing in the singles quarterfinals, senior Jeffrey Brown took a 6-2 loss to Miami's Christian Langmo in the first set, but rallied for a 7-5 second set win before falling 6-4 in the third.
