Gornet and Brown reach third round in singles
The University of Louisville's Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown have advanced to the third round in singles at the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic Friday evening.
"Almost a perfect day but lost the doubles quarterfinals," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Still good to see both Alex and Jeff in the third round. They beat good players from very good programs like Navy, Minnesota, Michigan, and Arizona."
Senior Alex Gornet started the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Navy's Thomas Pecor and followed suit by beating Arizona's Will Adkisson 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. He will face Minnesota's Ruben Weber in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Fellow senior Jeffrey Brown defeated Minnesota's Jeremy Lynn 7-5, 6-2 in his first round match and went on to best Michigan's Kevin Wong 6-4, 6-1. He advances to the quarterfinals where he will play Miami's Christian Langmo on Saturday.
In doubles, Brown and Gornet received a first-round bye and were edged by Princeton's Benjamin Tso and Tom Colautti 8-7.
