Kubel, Johnson Earn All-ACC Honors; Schmitt Named to All-Freshman Team

Kubel named to All-ACC First Team, while Johnson honored as an All-ACC Third Team selection
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville sophomore defender Tim Kubel and junior midfielder Daniel Johnson were named as 2015 All-ACC selections on Tuesday afternoon, while rookie forward Tate Schmitt was named to the All-Freshman team.
Kubel was tabbed as an All-ACC First Team honoree, while Johnson was honored by the ACC's 12 head coaches as an All-ACC Third Team selection. It marked the second straight season Louisville has placed multiple players on the All-ACC teams after four Cardinals were honored in 2014.
The ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC Second Team honoree in 2014, Kubel registered another stellar season for the Cardinals in year two scoring five goals and adding three assists while starting all 19 matches as a key member of the team's backline. In two collegiate seasons in Louisville, Kubel has 12 career goals and eight total assists in 41 starts.
A transfer from Maryland, Johnson scored five goals and started all 19 games in the midfield during his first season in Louisville. Three of his goals came on the road against ACC foes, while his first goal as a Cardinal came in the Sept. 8 win over rival Kentucky.
Schmitt had an impressive collegiate debut connecting for a team-leading seven goals and adding four assists in 13 starts and 19 appearances. He scored four game-winning goals for the Cardinals and had his first two-goal performance in a victory over Memphis on Sept. 22.
Wake Forest's Jack Harrison was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year, while his coach Bobby Muuss was named ACC Coach of the Year. Clemson's Paul Clowes and Kyle Fisher were voted as Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
Louisville (7-9-3) closed its 2015 season with a 2-1 overtime loss at No. 1 ranked Wake Forest in an ACC quarterfinal match on Sunday afternoon.
