American stars take on Europe in December
University of Louisville senior swimmer Kelsi Worrell joins world record-holders Missy Franklin and Ryan Lochte on the U.S. roster announced for Duel in the Pool, set for Dec. 11-12 at the Natatorium at IUPUI.
There are 19 women and 17 men named to the U.S. roster and the list also includes Olympic gold medalists: Natalie Coughlin, Nathan Adrian, Tyler Clary and Matt Grevers. Worrell was a three-time Pan American Games medallist and won two NCAA titles in 2015, setting the American record in the 100-fly along the way.
The meet will showcase many of the swimmers who will represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016.
Team USA has a 6-0 record in Duel in the Pool, which debuted at Indianapolis in 2003 with a dual meet against Australia. This year, the U.S. will swim against a European all-star team in short course meters (25-meter pool).
Each team may enter up to four swimmers per event, and scoring will be combined men's and women's points. There will be 13 individual events and two relays per gender.Â
