September 21, 2014 | Men's Tennis
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Louisville junior Jeffrey Brown claimed the Indiana University Hoosier Classic Singles title Sunday afternoon.
Brown opened Sunday's play with a 7-6, 6-4 semifinal win over Indiana's Matthew McCoy. He went on to beat Dayton's Carsten Fisher 6-3, 6-4 in the finals of the tournament, capping a 4-0 weekend in singles.
"I am really proud of Jeff Brown winning a tournament with a field of 64," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Having to play doubles as well, it was a physical test that he passed with flying colors. Also, the freshmen did a solid job. This is valuable experience for them. "
Playing in the consolation draw, sophomore Santiago Salazar defeated Youngstown State's Baseem Mekawi 6-4, 7-6 and freshman Courtney Lock topped Xavier's Freddy ABunku 6-3, 6-3.
