Stiefelmeyer and Wagner Reach Finals in Duke Fab Four Invitational

CARY, N.C. - University of Louisville seniors Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner each picked up two singles wins to advance to the finals of their respective divisions on day two of the Duke Fab Four Invitational. The Cards went on to pick up nine singles wins on the day.
"I was happy to see better tennis than yesterday from everyone and our results reflected that too," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "It's great to see Albert and Sebastian make their finals for tomorrow, and the team success in the second round matches promises for even better things tomorrow."
Stiefelmeyer defeated VCU's Joseph Cohen 6-0, 6-4 in the Blue Division quarterfinals and went on to beat North Carolina State's Simon Norenius 7-8(5), 6-4 in the semifinals to advance to Sunday's championship match. Senior Chris Simich also reached the semifinals after beating Wake Forest's Anthony Delcore, but fell 6-4, 6-0 to Wake's Beck Bond.
In the Black Division, Wagner picked up a 6-3, 6-3 quarterfinal win over Radford's Michiel Meekers and then topped Wake Forest's Sam Bloom to reach the title match. Also in Black Division, Junior Jeffrey Brown fell 6-2, 6-3 to NC State's Austin Powell, but rebounded with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 win over Elon's Josh Luck.
Playing in the quarterfinals of the White Division, senior Michael Lippens fell to Duke's Bruno Semenzato 6-4, 6-2, but went on the beat Charlotte's Vikram Hundai 6-2, 6-3. Junior Alex Gornet posted a pair of wins in the consolation draw to advance to the finals of the White Consolation Draw. In the quarterfinals, Gornet defeated Janken Thoen (Radford) 6-2, 6-1 and then registered a 6-2, 6-3 semifinal win over Nicholas Osterling of Wake Forest.
Stiefelmeyer and Lippens will also be playing in the doubles finals of the Blue Division on Sunday.
