Volleyblog Features Lyndsay Palmer
August 16, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
Hi I am Lyndsay Palmer. I am a setter and I transferred here from Gonzaga. Today is my turn on the Volleyblog.
We woke up bright and early and went to breakfast as usual, but little did we know what is in store for the day.
Yes, we have a schedule but the coaches like to keep us on our toes...literally (like my calves are sore).
Practice was very demanding and intense as usual, but the team always seems to respond with resilience and fire. Morning practice was very methodical, a lot of passing which required a lot of focus and as assistant coach Lee Maes would say "technique". It was rough for us at times but we all battled to keep focused to learn and get better.
Coach Anne Kordes as always, brought her enthusiasm and excitement. Unfortunately, she was struggling a bit in speaking. For instance, she meant to say "first" but she accidentally said, "fart".
I don't know why that is such a popular subject with the team, it gets ridiculous sometimes but it always seems to lighten the room with laughter.
Afternoon practice was way more intense. We played 6-on-6 in front of our season ticket holders, which was really cool to see the support of the fans.
It definitely gave me chills, and made me even more excited for the season to come with this team.
After we got to meet and talk to them. I got to explain how it really doesn't rain that much in Seattle (my hometown), as everyone else believes it too.
We ended the day with an educational session were we learned about defensive schemes and listened to Lee's teachings of Physics, Geometry, what "Aussie" means and of course a little volleyball.
We ended the day the same way we started, with intensity and focus on getting better every day, which is always the goal. So I would call it one successful day.
Go Cards!!!
