
Volleyball Travels to Miami and Notre Dame

The Cardinals volleyball team will hit the road with matchups against Miami and Notre Dame this weekend. The Cardinals (14-9, 6-5 ACC) are coming off a home split with a 3-1 victory over Syracuse and a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Virginia at the KFC Yum! Center.
Against Syracuse, the Cardinals had 47 kills, nine aces, and a team total of 16 blocks while holding the Orange to a .000 attack percentage to earn the 3-1 win. Sophomore Janelle Jenkins led the Cardinals in double figures with 17 kills and adding a game-high 15 digs. Junior setter Katie George added 39 assists with 12 digs and aced the Orange four times.In the five set loss to Virginia, four Cardinals had double-digit kills but it was not enough as the Cavaliers took the 3-2 win. Sophomore Maya McClendon led Louisville with 17 kills with freshman Maggie DeJong adding 16. Freshman Middle blocker Tess Clark knocked down 13 kills while Jenkins added 12 in the losing effort.
Jenkins and McClendon lead the Cardinals offensively with 273 and 269 kills, respectively. George adds 906 assists on and has 28 service aces this season for the Cards while Clark paces the team defensively as she contributes 107 total blocks and has 1.22 blocks per set.
Louisville will face Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Friday night at 7 p.m. This will be the third time in history the two teams have faced off, with the Cards notching both wins. The Hurricanes (15-7, 8-3 ACC) are coming off a split as they notched a 3-0 victory over NC State and took a 3-0 loss against No. 9 North Carolina. Senior Savannah Leaf led the Canes offensively in both matches with double-digit kills. Miami hit .323 against NC State while hitting .142 in the loss against North Carolina.
Leaf leads the Hurricanes offensively with 358 kills on the season and is first in the ACC with 4.71 kills per set. Freshman setter Haley Templeton adds 783 assists on the season and is second in the ACC with 10.88 assists per set.
Following the match against Miami, Louisville will head to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Fighting Irish at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Notre Dame sits at 5-18 overall and 2-10 in ACC play. The Fighting Irish come into the match on a four game skid as they face off the Cardinals for the second time this season. The Cardinals hit a strong .324 with 46 kills while holding Notre Dame to a .038 attack percentage in the 3-0 win at the KFC Yum! Center earlier this season. Jenkins had a game-high 12 kills while McClendon added 11 kills and three aces for the Cardinals. Clark and DeJong both added four blocks. Sam Fry led the Irish with a team-high 9 kills.
Notre Dame is coming off back to back five set losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College. Freshman Sydney Kuhn and senior Jeni Houser led the Irish with double-doubles against Georgia Tech. Houser hit a game-high 13 kills while adding 12 digs and Kuhn added 11 kills with 15 digs. Nicole Smith led the Irish with 14 kills in the 3-2 loss to Boston College.
The Irish are led by Houser who has amassed 220 kills on the season with Smith adding 194 kills. Freshman middle blocker Sam Fry leads the Irish defensively with 91 total blocks on the season.
