LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Michael Quang has signed to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2015.
"I am happy to add a player of the level of Michael Quang to an already talent signing class," said Ecarma. "I consider Michael one of the top juniors on the East Coast. I saw him play several times at the USA Nationals in Kalamazoo, Michigan and came away extremely impressed. He reminds me of a former No. 1 player for U of L, Russell Schutzman, because he is light on his feet, smooth on his strokes, and intelligent in his decision making. His dad was really influential in his decision because he wanted Michael to play in a very serious tennis program in America's top tennis conference - the ACC. Michael had a great official visit and we really connected. He is also a bright student who will join a team that boasts a high grade point average already."
Quang, joins the Cardinals from Forest Hills, Md. ,where he is ranked No. 79 nationally in the Tennisrecruiting.net Class of 2015 rankings. He was the singles champion of the Mid-Atlantic Sectional (MAS) Level 1 and Level 2. Quang also registered singles wins over four players ranked in the top 55 nationally and qualified for the USA nationals. In doubles, he was the MAS Level 2 champion and reached the consolation finals of MAS Level I.
"I can't wait until next year when I can officially play for Louisville!" said Quang. "I am honored to be a part of the Cardinal family because of their amazing sports achievements over the years. I chose U of L because it not only has an amazing tennis team, but also has the right academic pathway that I am looking for."
