LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's tennis head coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Brandon Lancaster has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cardinals in the fall of 2015.
"I was determined not to let Brandon leave town because I felt from day one, that he was one of us in many ways," said Ecarma. "A couple of words that can describe our program are `humble' and `hungry' and that fits Brandon as well. His dad did a very good job of developing him and he probably understands the dynamic of team tennis more than any other signee in this class. He has a bright future here and I am so glad that his family, friends and fans can follow him every step of the way."
Lancaster, a Louisville, Ky., native, joins the Cardinals from St. Xavier High School where he helped his team to three state titles. The 2014 Kentucky State Singles champion also earned All-America honors in 2014. He posted a runner-up finish in the 2013 state championship. Lancaster earned a fourth place finish at the USA Regional and was a quarterfinalist in the Southern USA Closed championship (16 and under). He reached consolation semifinals of the Fall Southern Championship, the consolation quarterfinals of the Southern USA Closed Championship (18 and under) and reached the fourth round of the USA Nationals consolation draw. Throughout his junior career, Lancaster has also posted singles wins over several players ranked in the top 50 according to Tennisrecruiting.net .
" I can't wait to play with the U of L team next year and to improve my game under Coach Ecarma," said Lancaster. "It will be exciting to be playing again with Alex Gornet after we played on the same team for a year in high school."
"Brandon joins a select group of exceptional Louisville high school players who have played for their hometown university such as Kevin Walsh, Todd Arterburn, Steve Rueff and Ira Schechter to name a few," said Ecarma. "He also joins a group of Kentucky State High Singles champions who have signed on with us such as Scott Hill, Andy Schrecker, Michael Mather and Robbie Robertson. Also, Brandon is following legendary St. Xavier players such as Tim Gornet, Ben Clos, and current star Alex Gornet."
